Is Psychic Surgery real?

Part of my Reiki Master Training included what some call "psychic surgery." Essentially, it is a more shamanic approach to pulling negative energy and such from the client's energy field. 

Now, you may have some negative connotations around this idea and for good reason! There are countless reports of unethical promises and strange rituals (and yes downright scary too!) made by nefarious "healers."

Typically, psychic surgery might involve descriptors such as dark energy, curses, holds etc. and to be honest it just wasn't my thing! 

But I wondered... was this a thing? 

Why was it in my Reiki training?

I have to admit, I was curious.

It involved a process for protecting the hands in the light and a way for the client to be able to view the energy and the symbolic nature of how it was affecting their energy body and their life etc.

In terms of Reiki, it seemed the opposite approach to allowing the light to infuse the energy body and push aside blockages. The way I see it, Reiki almost melts the energetic stronghold and fills it with light.

Imagine my surprise when early on in a distant session, I had a vision of my client's field and in her heart I could perceive a very long sword.

I asked the client, "What are you feeling right now?"

She mentioned that she could feel a pain in her heart so I asked if I could share the vision I was receiving.

Upon receiving her consent, I told her I was seeing the symbolic image of a sword in the heart. As soon as the words were out of my mouth, she began to sob.

Feelings of betrayal and abandonment rose into her awareness, she couldn't quite explain it but if was incredibly cathartic.

After a while, I asked my client, "Do you think you would like to remove the sword and send it into the light?"

My client eagerly agreed and asking the Reiki to surround us, she removed the sword and sent it into the light. I instructed her on using the breath to release the energy and speak out loud a mantra or affirmation that spirit provided for her!

The relief my client felt was immediate and far reaching as she had epiphanies in the coming weeks about relationships in which she gave her power away or didn't trust herself.

Since that session (about 8 years ago), I have often found shapes, images, energy constructs in my client's fields and I've come to accept that this is what psychic surgery is aiming to release, albeit in a different way than I was used to.

So, long story short, I realized that psychic surgery is definitely a "thing."  However, like all practices, there is an ethical way to approach it and conversely, one that preys on the fears of others.

My approach is always to be curious, lead with compassion and let Reiki lead. 

In this way, I am always guided by the light and wisdom of the client's higher self in exactly what they need in any given moment!

One of my favourite ways to work with clients is through distance Reiki sessions where we meet on Zoom but turn off the video and rely on the audio only. This creates a cozy cocoon for us to explore and invite in the Reiki healing.

It works just like an in person session where I go through the hand sequences but this session is also verbal and interactive. I share what I am feeling, seeing, hearing along the way and invite the client to as well.
